What to Do When TikTok Says Your Post Is Not Eligible for the For You Feed
Preserve the notice, confirm whether the issue affects one post or the account, then appeal a mistake or correct the substance.

Start with the notice, not the view count
If TikTok explicitly says a post is not eligible for the For You feed, save the notice, read the stated reason, check whether the restriction applies to one post or the account, and appeal if the decision appears wrong. Do not delete first. If the post genuinely conflicts with an eligibility standard, correct the underlying content problem and make a meaningfully new version instead of trying to disguise the same file.
That process is different from troubleshooting a post that simply received fewer views than expected. TikTok says low views can reflect limited community engagement rather than For You feed ineligibility. Unless the app shows an eligibility notice or warning, “my post stalled” is not proof of a restriction.
Separate three problems that look similar
Creators often use “shadowban” to describe any sudden loss of reach. The word may express the experience, but it does not identify what TikTok actually did. Start with the state the platform shows.
A low-view post with no eligibility notice is a performance question. Review its traffic sources, audience match, retention, search intent, and viewer actions. Do not invent a policy diagnosis from a view count. TikTok’s Community Guidelines say content that is ineligible for the For You feed can still be found in other ways, while a video that receives few views may simply have weak engagement.
If one post is ineligible, it may remain visible on your profile or to followers, but TikTok has decided not to recommend it in the For You feed. TikTok also says FYF-ineligible content may be harder to find in search. The exact notice matters because unoriginal content, undisclosed commercial promotion, and a health claim are different cases.
TikTok says repeatedly posting content unsuitable for the For You feed can make the account and its posts ineligible for recommendation and harder to find in search. Do not assume one weak post created an account restriction. Look for the account notice or a warning in Account check.
- Low views without a notice: investigate performance, not an assumed restriction.
- One ineligible post: read and respond to the reason attached to that post.
- Account ineligible for recommendation: review the account notice, affected posts, and appeal path.
Preserve the evidence before changing anything
Before deleting, privating, or editing your source project, create a small incident record. This gives you something concrete to review and a cleaner basis for an appeal. It also prevents a common mistake: deleting the only visible explanation, then trying to reconstruct what TikTok said from memory.
TikTok’s public guidance does not promise a universal appeal response time. Save the submission state and date, but do not treat an unofficial “wait exactly X hours” rule as platform policy.
- Screenshot the full notice and stated reason.
- Copy the post URL and record the posting time.
- Save the original export and editing project.
- Note whether the post remains visible on your profile.
- Check the post’s analytics or More insights screen.
- Record any inbox or profile notification about the account.
- List the media you created and any footage, music, logos, or clips from elsewhere.
- Note whether the post markets your own business, a sponsor, or another product.
Keep source files and approvals in the scheduled-post workflow
Read the rule named in the notice
For You feed eligibility is narrower than “the post was allowed to stay online.” TikTok’s guidelines include material that may remain on the platform but is not suitable for broad recommendation. The standards cover safety, integrity, misinformation, regulated activities, commercial disclosure, and other categories. Read the section connected to your notice rather than scanning only for banned content.
TikTok’s integrity guidance says reproduced or unoriginal material without new or creative changes may be FYF-ineligible. It gives content with another person’s visible watermark or superimposed logo as an example and names extremely short clips and content based exclusively on GIFs as low-quality examples.
Those examples are not permission to “beat detection” by cropping a border, adding a filter, changing the speed, or covering a watermark. If another person’s clip remains the substance of the post, cosmetic changes do not create an original work or resolve intellectual-property concerns.
Commercial posts need a separate check. TikTok’s current guidelines require the content disclosure setting when marketing a product, brand, or business, and list undisclosed marketing content as FYF-ineligible. A relevant hashtag is not a substitute for the platform’s disclosure control.

Use a five-step eligibility workflow
For an account-level recommendation restriction, TikTok documents two appeal routes. From Inbox, open the ineligible-for-recommendation notification, tap View more, review the affected videos, and tap Appeal. From Profile, tap the ineligible notice under the username, review the videos, and tap Appeal.
Button names can vary as the app changes, so use the closest current path shown in your account. An appeal is a request for review, not a negotiation over views, and approval does not guarantee that a post will return to its earlier trajectory.
- Confirm the scope: Open the affected post and its analytics or More insights view. Then check TikTok Studio → More tools → Account check. TikTok also documents Settings and privacy → Support → Safety Center → Account check. A checkmark means no listed issue was detected for that feature or post; a warning sign indicates an issue to review.
- Match the reason to the finished post: Watch the export, not only the editing timeline. Identify who created each important visual, any external footage or watermark, the original explanation or demonstration you added, commercial relationships, and any claim that could fall under an FYF-specific standard.
- Appeal a likely mistake: Use the appeal option attached to the notice. Briefly state what you created, what source material you have rights to use, what the video shows, and why the named category does not fit.
- If the notice is accurate, change the substance: Resolve the policy, originality, disclosure, or quality problem. Do not rely on a crop, filter, speed change, or another cosmetic edit.
- Review the pattern: Inspect recent content for the same issue. If several notices name the same category, fix the production checklist rather than treating every upload as an isolated accident.
Choose appeal or a real remake
Suppose a creator posts a downloaded podcast segment with burned-in captions and a publisher watermark, then adds a new title card. If TikTok identifies it as unoriginal, cropping out the watermark does not address the main issue. A substantively new version might use a short, properly licensed excerpt only where necessary, place the creator’s own analysis at the center, cite the source, and add original examples or a demonstration. Copyright and platform eligibility remain separate questions, so permission still matters.
For a creator’s own tutorial incorrectly labeled unoriginal, the best first action is different: keep the project file and camera originals, appeal with a concise explanation, and avoid repeatedly deleting and re-uploading near-identical exports while the decision is unresolved.
A useful team log records the post, notice and date, evidence saved, appeal or correction, and outcome. Write “pending” when the outcome is pending. Do not turn a missing response into an assumed rejection.
What not to do
The practical rule is simple: trust the explicit notice over reach folklore, preserve evidence before acting, and respond to the rule TikTok actually named. Appeal a classification error. Correct a real problem. If you make another version, make it better for the viewer—not merely harder for a detection system to recognize.
- Do not call every low-view post restricted. Look for a platform notice.
- Do not delete before saving the reason and evidence. You may remove the context needed for review.
- Do not repost the same file repeatedly. Repetition does not fix a policy or originality problem.
- Do not use tiny visual changes as evasion. Change the substance when the substance is the issue.
- Do not blame one editor, upload device, hashtag, or file property without evidence. TikTok does not publicly confirm many “instant fix” theories circulated in creator forums.
- Do not confuse a post-level decision with an account-level restriction. Check both the post notice and Account check.
- Do not assume allowed means recommendable. FYF standards are designed for broad recommendation and can be stricter than removal rules.

Frequently asked questions
- Why does TikTok say my video is not eligible for the For You feed? TikTok may decide that a post does not meet its FYF standards even if it remains available elsewhere. Open the notice to see the stated category; do not assume the reason.
- Is this the same as a shadowban? It is an explicit recommendation decision. Creators use “shadowban” more broadly for unexplained low reach, but low views without a notice do not prove FYF ineligibility.
- How do I appeal? Use the Appeal control connected to the post or account notice. For an account restriction, TikTok documents routes through the Inbox notification or the ineligible notice below the profile username.
- Should I delete the post? Not before saving the notice, stated reason, URL, source files, and appeal evidence. Appeal a likely mistake or decide whether a substantively corrected version serves the audience.
- Can I crop, filter, or speed up the video to make it eligible? TikTok does not publish a rule saying cosmetic changes restore eligibility. If the problem is reproduced content without meaningful new creative work, a crop or filter does not solve it.
- Does removing #fyp fix the post? No official TikTok guidance says removing #fyp reverses an eligibility decision. Address the rule named in the notice.
- Can an account become ineligible for recommendation? Yes. TikTok says repeated unsuitable posts can make the account and its posts ineligible and harder to find in search. Check Inbox, the profile notice, and Account check.
- How long does an appeal take? The TikTok Support pages used for this guide do not promise one universal response time. Record when you submitted it and monitor the notice in your account.
